So when his day starts off badly, Mr. President decides he is in need of a time-out from running the country. Disguising himself, he sneaks out of the White House, hurries down the street to the local school and enrolls in Mrs. Appletree s kindergarten class.
There Mr. President slides his fingers through globs of finger paint. He spins around and around on the merry-go-round at recess. He learns to say please, to raise his hand and to take turns.
Back at the White House he is greeted by a panicked Secretary if State and two angry world leaders on the brink of war. But Mr. President remembers what he learned that day in Mrs.Appletree s class and he knows just what to do to avoid an international crisis.
Children will delight in Rick Walton s laugh-out-loud story and its over-the-top take on conflict resolution. Illustrator Brad Sneed s watercolor illustrations capture the humor of the story with their exaggerated, outsized characters and playfully distorted compositions.

This is an excellent book for kids with a very timely message. We read it to a class of kindergartners at our grandson's school. It's funny yet delivers a strong message about getting to know people and getting along. The teacher wrote down the name of the book as she was so impressed with it. Illustrations are great also!
"Mr. President Goes to School" is a picture book for children ages 4-8 that tells a tale of creative conflict resolution ideas learned (by the President, disguised and on time-out from Presidential responsibilities) in Mrs, Appletree's class, just seven blocks away from his oval office. It's really wonderful what learning basic consideration and good manners can do to reduce conflict. The wacky water color illustrations suggest all kinds of playful activities and plans. When the President returns to his responsibilities, he is just in time to avert a world crisis by implementing the very rules of conduct and courtesy that he learned in Mrs. Appletree's class. Children and adults will enjoy "Mr. President Goes to School."
Hilarious and so true! If only we could send the leaders of the world a copy of this book-or at least some milk and cookies. Kids will `get' this book and love the illustrated silly situations. Grown-ups, however, will enjoy both the wisdom of the narrative and the witty illustrations with the different running gags. Walton and Sneed do a great job of entertaining both audiences. Silly, fun and laugh-out-loud funny. A pleasure to read. - Biblio Reads Children's Book Review
