Additional Information

Detective Lena Gamble knows how to handle the hottest cases--do it fast and keep her head down. Because if it all goes south, the department won’t hesitate to make a scapegoat out of her. So when she gets called to the scene of a double murder at Club 3 AM, the latest A-list hangout for Hollywood celebs, she knows the fun is only beginning.

And she's not wrong. It's just much worse than she imagined. As expected, one of the victims is club owner Johnny Bosco, one of the most well-connected men in Hollywood politics. But the shocker comes when Lena sees the other victim: twenty-five-year-old Jacob Gant, acquitted just days ago of murdering his sixteen-year-old neighbor, after L.A.'s latest trial-of-the-century.

But are these victims of a father's righteous anger or is something bigger at play?

Robert Ellis delivers all the twists and turns fans have come to expect in this bestselling series with plenty to spare in Murder Season, his most outstanding white-knuckled thriller yet.

Good complex stories. Good layering and intertwining of threads. Believable characters.
The only trouble I have with this book is Ellis is obviously a bright guy in order to weave the story the way he does.
I wonder if he's not too invested in providing so many twists and plot changes that he reduces the protagonist to a follower who is ineffectual. Seems like she's in competition with the author and of course loses.
Another thing that bothered me is one of the red herring suspects could not be found with a gun but upon searching his home they found a receipt for a gun that was paid for with a credit card and mailed to him from Arizona. This was completely bogus as a pilot point. If someone pays for a gun with a credit card from an Arizona Gun dealer it would mean that dealer has violated Arizona, California and federal laws. A gun dealer has a Federal and sometimes a state license to do business. That's his rice bowl. The mark up on guns is about 30%. It's ludicrous to... Read more
Well, at the very least Robert Ellis always gives the reader a great, twisted plot and very well developed characters. Like the other Gamble books, this plot has plenty of characters who are certainly capable of doing the bad deeds and plenty of evidence that can lead the reader down the wrong paths to a culprit. That means that the reader is certainly entertained and kept guessing to the very end. There is also plenty of bad politics involved -- those who should be doing the right thing actually doing very bad things to cover their asses! Lena Gamble is a very strong character, one well worth reading. She has the integrity that other characters should have. I certainly hope Ellis is busy writing more about her. I am anxiously awaiting another dose of Lena. I highly recommend all Ellis books and Lena Gamble books in particular.
If you 've read any other Lena Gamble books, you know the way coffee as a crutch seems to figure into every story. This time it's cigarettes. I guess I am pretty familiar with these characters of Robert Ellis novels because I knew Vaughn was the killer as soon as he was introduced, because Lena would never think so in a million years. The guy with no motive ends up being the mastermind. It was still a really great police procedural novel and I am liking Lena Gamble stories a lot. You will too.
