New York Times Bestseller Cara Black’s fashionable Parisian P.I. Aimée Leduc has a new look for her 14th adventure: five months pregnant.
June, 1998: Paris’s sticky summer heat is even more oppressive than usual as rowdy French football fans riot in anticipation of the World Cup. Private investigator Aimée Leduc has been trying to slow down her hectic lifestyle—she’s five months pregnant and has the baby’s well-being to think about now. But then disaster strikes close to home. A serial rapist has been terrorizing Paris’s Pigalle neighborhood, following teenage girls home and attacking them in their own houses. Zazie, the 13-year-old daughter of the proprietor of Aimée’s favorite café, has disappeared. The police aren’t mobilizing quickly enough, and when Zazie’s desperate parents approach Aimée for help, she knows she couldn’t say no even if she wanted to.

MURDER IN PIGALLE might be my all-time favorite Aimee Leduc novel. Tough-as-nails and always chic Aimee is this time battling villains -- and morning sickness! I also love the descriptions of Pigalle and its history. You can easily enjoy this book without having read the other books in the series. This is such a smart, atmospheric and high entertaining mystery. Highly recommend!
I am a Cara Black devotee and this book blew me away--so richly detailed, with an even more sophisticated plot and an even bigger heart than (in my opinion) any of her previous books. I loved the many motherhood elements in the book, from Aimee's pregnancy to the maternal feelings she has toward missing Zazie and on to the many forms of parenting you see throughout the book. As I said, I've long been a fan of this series, but this book was more than just a fun read; it was touching and thought-provoking. I can't wait for the next one now, and I hope Cara Black keeps this rich emotional arc going forward.
Cara Black's characters are complex, her stories are unique and her plot lines are compelling. I feel lucky to have found her book series. I had tired of all the cookie cutter murder mysteries and crime dramas. Cara could teach a thing or two to other authors in regards to how to write a book with some creativity.
I highly recommend this book and this book series to anyone who's interested in something different (and anyone who loves Paris- and who doesn't?)
