Natchitoches, 1800-1826: Translated Abstracts of Register Number Five of the Catholic Church Parish of St. François des Natchitoches in Louisiana (Cane River Creole Series Book 4)
By 1800, the Spanish outpost of Natchitoches, on the Louisiana-Texas frontier, was a magnet drawing adventurers and settlers from most of the Western world. “Anglo†Americans, Irish and English immigrants, European continentals, Tejanos, Canadians, Caribbean refugees, and more lived cheek by jowl with the old French, Spanish, African, and Native American families who had peopled the outpost throughout the 1700s. The records in this book embrace them all—all faiths, all colors. These abstracts, translated from the original French and Spanish and presented in their original arrangement, represent the only surviving church records of any type for Northwest Louisiana during this era.
