• COMPOSITION | Our premium Belgorod chalk is nearly 100% pure calcium carbonate! It’s composed primarily of calcite, a common constituent of sedimentary rock - particularly limestone. Calcite is found in limestone, coral, sea-shells and chalk. Also, 2 - 4% of chalk can be made of quartz, or other minerals depending on its surrounding geographical features.
• TEXTURE & FORM | Premium Belgorod chalk is the perfect balance of earthy, velvety and somewhat dusty. However, it’s also very smooth and almost creamy to the touch. It feels and looks almost malleable on the surface, and is quite soft in geological terms. It can be broken by hand with little effort. The earthy feel of the chalk is very clean and pristine. It has a mild but characteristic odour, almost like a fresh morning dew on a mountain meadow.

• ORIGINS & FORMATION | Our premium Belgorod chalk comes straight from deposits in the mountains near the city of Belgorod. It is exceptionally pure, and is 100% naturally formed from Mother Earth. The chalk is formed primarily of calcite from microscopic plankton and other marine organisms which settled on ancient sea-beds. Over the millennia, pressure from tectonic activity and natural layering caused the calcite from the plankton to form into calcium carbonate.
