  • VINTAGE NOTEBOOK: 6x9 inch Journal with 96 hand-made Lokta paper pages (192 pages front/back) with deckle, rough-cut edges
  • HAND-MADE PAPER: Non-tree paper made from the Lokta bush grown in the high altitude of the Himalaya Mountains.
  • NATURE'S COLOR: Traditional art of vegetable-dyed cover with black walnut husks, creates a finish unique to each journal.
  • SUN-KISSED IN THE HIMALAYAS: Lokta bush fibers are cooked and then spread by hand over boxed screens and set to dry in the Himalayan sun, creating the paper. Pages contain natural flecks and texture unique to the art of hand-crafted Lokta paper.
  • HAND-CRAFTED IN NEPAL: Supports a 1,000-year-old Nepalese paper-making tradition.

The Nepali Keeper Journal from from Kathmandu Valley Co. uses hand-made Lokta paper based on the thousand-year-old paper making tradition in the Himalayas of Nepal. The Lokta paper comes from a non-tree source, the Lokta bush, which grows on the southern slopes of the Nepali Himalayas between 5,250 and 13,000 feet. When properly cut, the lokta bushes produce three to eight new, fast-growing shoots making Lokta paper one of the most sought after non-tree papers. The inner bark of the lokta bush is removed by hand and then "cooked" into a mash which is then carefully spread on boxed screens and set to dry in the Himalayan sun creating one of the toughest and most resilient papers resistant to tearing, mold, and insect damage. The paper is 100% bleach free and is handmade in the rural, high-altitude villages of Nepal utilizing the traditional deckle/uneven page edges. Lokta paper has a beautiful texture containing natural flecks from the bush and can vary slightly in thickness from page to page due to the unique handcrafting process. The coloring for the Dark Walnut Keeper Journal is made from actual walnut husks which produce a rich dark-brown coloring. The walnut husk surrounds and protects the walnut seed and has been used as a natural dye for centuries. Keep and preserve your memories, thoughts or sketches on the 96 unlined pages (192 front/back). Measuring 6x9 inches, it's the perfect size for any adventure. The Nepali Keeper is the perfect note-taking companion at home, work, or for your adventures and journeys around the globe. This Himalayan handcrafted treasure supports the talented Nepalese artisans and preserves the thousand-year-old tradition of hand made paper in Nepal. Namaste
