I got this pot for my first foray into canning. Overall, I'm pretty happy with it. It's attractive, sturdy, and I'm sure it will last me many years. I have an electric glass top stove and the flat bottom is necessary.
However, there are two main issues I have with this pot. The first is that if you're using quart sized jars, and your recipe (like mine) tells you to make sure that there's at least an inch of water above the jar while you're processing it, this pot isn't tall enough for rolling boiling water one inch above a quart sized jar sitting in a canning rack.
The second thing is, if your recipe (again, like mine) tells you to put the lid on while processing, the aluminum rim on the pot and it's lid do not have any kind of seal under them. When you're processing, if you have the lid on, condensation runs down the lid and into the lip where the lid sits, and fills it, until it starts dripping down the side of the pot. If you're canning with pint sized jars,...
This is one of the first canners I've found to work on my glass top stove. I'm still working on getting the water levels correct for the number of jars I have in there, but over-all great product.
I just received this pot and I must say I like it. I has a completely flat bottom which is why I wanted it.
Using this pot and my Norpro rack, I canned pickles in pint jars yesterday (capacity was 7 wide mouth pint jars.) It worked well on my glass top range.
However, there is an overall issue: The box and description say that the pot holds quart jars, but it is not tall enough for regular mouth quart jars! The most I can get is about 5/8" of water above the quart jars without overflowing the pot when the water is boiling. I have not tried wide-mouth jars yet, but I expect that I'll get about 3/4". This is an issue because you're supposed to have at least 1" of water above the jars to process them properly.
So, with this pot and my Norpro rack, I can basically only can pint jars (Norpro rack is too wide at the bottom for 1/2 pint jars.) A bit of a bummer.
