Additional Information

Caring is an essential value in the personal and professional lives of nurses. This book is a response to the call for a theory of nursing as caring. The Nursing as Caring theory is about a unique way of living, caring in the world. This theory provides a view that can be lived in all nursing situations and can be practiced alone or in combination with other theories. Please note there is a ten copy minimum order for this title.

This book was awful. The content is wonderful, but could be summed up in a page or two. The style of writing was as incoherent as esoteric. Such an unfortunate delivery really detracts from content that could benefit students in many ways.

"Nursing as caring believes caring and non-caring individuals alike are all in fact caring being given time and space to demonstrate the principles of nursing as caring with others who may not feel caring as part of their role to be as such a caring non-individual"

I am not joking. Read 50 pages of THAT and see if you feel a) better prepared to succeed in nursing school, or b) looking for broken glass to chew on.

Of course, this is just my opinion. However, just thinking about the class discussion that followed the reading of this "book" literally makes me laugh out loud. 40 people looking at eachother saying "why did we waste our time?"

Buyer beware.
I agree with the reviews written here, this book is pure drivel. The person who wrote/edited this book did so in the most incoherent manner possible. I don't believe the writer/editor knows what the word "a" is, much less how to use it. In many of the paragraphs I was praying to find a comma to interrupt the exact same idea I read 2 pages ago, and 2 pages before that. Is the idea good? Sure, we should always be caring and compassionate as nurses, but does it really take 138 pages of total manure to tell us that? The entire concept could have been summed up in one chapter of five or six pages, easily!
While I appreciate and love the message of "Nursing as Caring" presented in this book, I found the book repetitive and the train of thought sporadic. This was a required text for one of my nursing classes, it was not necessarily an easy read due to the writing style of the author, however the message is one of great importance for the Student Nurse.
