After the reading Mala's extremely popular previous Certification Guide for OCA Java SE 7 exam, I did not expect to see more of an improvement this time, but it seems Mala found the way how to raise the bar once again.
Mala starts her certification guide with an extensive introduction about the OCA Java SE 8 Programmer I Exam as quite often for the students arise such questions as: "Will it be on the exam?", "Do I need to know this?", "Are the questions going to be in the form of...?", "How deep I need to understand...?" and similar. I think Mala perfectly clears these doubts right at the beginning of the book in FAQ form and general explanation, so students reading the book could fully concentrate on the exam's actual content without distracting themselves.
As an extra, for the readers who'll be willing to go for further Java certifications, can find a nice roadmap chart, which clearly illustrates a further certification road...
This book is a deep dive into the Java programming language. It doesn't cover all the topics of the language, only the "basic" ones, but those addressed are very detailed. If you could remember all the corner cases mentioned in the book, you would become a Java ninja in no time! Speaking about time, be prepared to spend several weeks to ingurgitate it from cover to cover: it weight almost 700 pages. This is huge, but well worth it: even if you don't plan to pass the OCA exam, this book goes in such details that you could even use it as a reference manual in some way. As an enterprise, experimented Java developer for 15 years, using a lot of libraries and frameworks in my day to day job, I sometimes forget about specific bits and bytes details. The book can help quickly find the answer. It is not its primary goal, but its broad, deep coverage of elementary topics make it a beneficial side effect! We usually try to avoid side effects in programming, but here...

Very interesting book that covers all the objectives needed in order to successfully face the certification exams. It also makes you understand the common pitfalls which you may encounter in questions and explains the various options you may use, even if the may seem weird. Another important feature is the full mock exam at chapter 8, which may help the reader to deal with the question very similar to those of the real exam.
This the resource I'm going to use when trying to face the OCAJSE8-Programmer I exam.
