Ocean Dreams

R. Murray Schafer, author of "Tuning of the World," wrote "The sea has always been…symbolic of eternity, change, cleansing, purification, refreshment, and renewal. [Paradoxically], it defies the laws of gravity: flowing down-ward and evaporating upward." The ocean shore is also the most elusive sound to capture in a recording. Symbolic of all life, it contains every aspect of known sound: rhythm, melody, loudness, softness, texture, detail, lowest and highest frequencies, form and chaos. Each coastal environment sounds different – each speaking with its own special voice. This recording was made during the winter at a remote beach along the Big Sur coast of California.
