Additional Information

Celebrating fifteen years together, the boys of BossaCucaNova founded by Márcio Menescal (son of bossa nova pioneer Roberto Menescal), DJ Marcelinho DaLua and record producer/sound engineer Alex Moreira utilize this optimistic nationalism as the foundation of their latest album, Our Kind Of Bossa (Six Degrees Records). The upbeat eleven-track record focuses equally on Brazil's other homegrown concoction: samba and features an amazing cast of guest contributors like legendary MPB band Os Cariocas, one of the country's most recognizable vocalists, Maria Rita, Singer Emílio Santiago, São Paulo native Wilson Simoninha and long time Bossacucanova vocalist Cris Delanno

Let me be straight up in saying I am a big fan of this band, and love not only the music they play, but their unique execution of same. And while I do not have every CD they have put out, I have most and have never been disappointed. This certainly is not a disappointment by any stretch -- I love it!

If I were to best describe this I would say the sound is somewhere between their "Um batida..." effort and their "Live" effort. A great mix of songs with the professional production of a 'studio album' coupled with a bit of a 'live' feel, especially in the chorus sections of the songs.

If you are a fan of Brasilian music you will definitely recognize most of these songs, and if you are a fan of the band you will definitely appreciate their unique twist on some of them!

Finally, I would like to say that the song snippets in preview are simply not enough to help one decide on the quality of this effort. When I first listened to them I... Read more
BossaCucaNova has been around for a while now - since their first album, Revisited Classics released in 1998 (I believe), they came onto the scene when a resurgence of Brazilian music was taking shape. Nova Bossa Nova was in, and they were at the fore-front with a raw, Rio type of sound. Consisting of members Marcelinho De Lua, Alex Moreira, they have released 4 full studio albums and at least 1 or 2 projects including "Ipanema Lounge". Considering the rich history of the members, and Marcio's father being a legend of course (Roberto Menescal), the group has a unique, fun and often times quirky take on the old Bossa Nova classics. How does this one hold up?

Well one consistency that they have stuck with through the years that has been a winner are the guest musicians that contribute. And the first song, an old classic "Adeus America", features none other than barbershop style band Os Cariocas, Wilson Simoninha and Oscar Castro-Neves in a brilliant and cool rendition... Read more
Bossacucanova has been around for a while, using a format of Bossa Nova to launch their innovative takes on jazz. I have five of their albums, one of which also is a film of the group working together. They deserve the rating because it seems that they only release the music when it meets their high standards.
