The P-40, made famous by Claire Chennault's Flying Tigers, had its beginnings with the Curtiss Model 75 in 1934. The Model 75 became the P-36 (first delivered in 1938), and in April, 1939 the USAAC placed the largest fighter order it had ever made for over 500 P-40s, which was a P-36 with a V-1710 engine. The P-40 went on to make an excellent record with the AVG, and was in service with the USAAF throughout most of WWII, and on nearly every front. Includes the P-40D, Kittyhawk I, P-40E, Kittyhawk IA, P-40F, Kittyhawk II, P-40K, Kittyhawk III, P-40L, Kittyhawk II, P-40M, Kittyhawk III, P-40N, Kittyhawk IV, and XP-40Q variants. Extensive interior and exterior photo coverage of the different variants. Includes a 2-page modeling summary. Illustrated with 152 b/w and 62 color photos, 10 color drawings, 26 b/w line drawings. 80 pages.
