A digital cordless phone with exceptional signal quality and a host of added features, Panasonic's KXTG2583 also provides a sleek design and a fully integrated answering center. Operating on the 2.4 GHz band, as opposed to the more common 900 MHz band, this phone is able to offer significantly increased clarity and handset range. Sensitivity to handset signal is increased by providing two omni directional antennas, while error-correction software helps to increase the range of the handset without significant signal loss. The phone also utilizes digital spread-spectrum technology, which enhances security by shifting frequencies multiple times every second.
The KCTG2583 includes many convenient featur. You can adjust ringer and handset volumes to your liking and also have the option of choosing tone or pulse dialing. You can expect about 4.5 hours of talk time and about 11 days of standby before recharging the handset battery. The speakerphone lets you roam at will and is fully digital, resulting in more intelligible conversations with less echo and dropout. LED screens on both the handset and base tell you the name and number of incoming calls, even if you are on the other line, while a two-way paging system can either locate that ever-elusive handset or let you talk to someone in another room. The base is easily wall mountable, and the handset is headset compatible.
The answering center is more like a personal secretary than a simple machine. The built in memory can hold 15 minutes of date/time stamped messages, while the speed dial memory stores up to 50 of your most frequently dialed numbers. If you're a subscriber to voice messaging services, you can program the phone to notify you when you have new messages in your box.
Reasonably priced for the number of features, the KXTG2583 also comes backed with a one-year parts and labor warranty.

We had a Panasonic 900MHz phone that we broke, so we were in the market for a new cordless (had to have answering machine/call waiting caller id). When we were shopping for our 900MHz, we had tried Sony, Uniden, V-Tech to name a few, and they all ended up going back to the store for various reasons. We kept the Panasonic, which had the exact features we wanted, and it performed superbly. So, when we went searching for a new cordless, I pretty much knew I wanted another Panasonic. The features are perfect and easy to use. When viewing calls received (caller id), simply press a button to add that name and number to your directory. Retreiving messages (either at home or away) is simple. For wall mounting, I love the way the phone rests on the base (it inserts into an opening on the top). This way, you lessen the chance of not locking the phone onto the base, and it falling. The phone is surrounded by black "rubber" material, that makes it more resistant to damage...
I purchased this phone in Sept. of 2002 and already the battery only stays charged for about 40 minutes, it was advertized to last about 3.5 hours of talk time before recharging.I should have kept my cheaper AT&T 900MHZ model, which I had no problems with keeping a charge.
First of all, I must mention that I got a Used model - I bought the KX-TG2583B (black model) over a year ago. Here's what I think of my unit - Pros: 1) The quality of the sound (handset) during a conversation is great - sounds just like a corded phone. 2) I tested the reach of the handset from the base - it's excellent! I could literally go 100 feet away from the house and the signal was crystal clear! 3) I like the fact that you can listen to your messages using the handset. 4) It is definitely very sturdy, I've dropped the handset a few times with no problems! Cons: a) The 'duplex' speaker-phone on the base is not very good. When I use it, people on the other end cannot hear me clearly. I think it is not true 'duplex' since both parties can't really talk at the same time. b) The answering machine could do with a lot of improvements. You can remotely access your messages from another phone, but you have very limited options on playback,...
