Additional Information

This is a personal finance book for people who don’t enjoy reading about personal finance (otherwise, you’d be reading something by Dave Ramsey or Suze Orman right now). Without all of the financial jargon and market speak, you’re looking for a simple understanding of how to make the best use of every dollar coming into and leaving your household—not only now, but also for the future.
When it comes to money and wealth, it’s not how much you know, it’s what you do next. Financial success is about creating enough clarity in purpose that you know exactly what needs to happen to get you there faster, easier and with more grace.
The last thing people need is another person explaining the nuts and bolts of personal finance. The question is, how can you get inspired about your financial future?
Personal Finance That Doesn’t Suck will guide you through:
•Identifying your single greatest indicator of future wealth
•Achieving more wealth through awareness
•Balancing your current situation with your dreams for the future
•Creating your vision of wealth
•Getting back on track when you run into obstacles
•Adopting a wealth mindset and helping you get out of your own way
In Personal Finance That Doesn’t Suck, you (finally) see that you really are in control of your money; the real challenges in making your money work for you never has to do with personal finance-y stuff; that’s simply a tool to use once you alter your mindset, behaviors and beliefs that allow you to expect more from your money.

I hate reading personal finance books, but Heaven knows I need all the help I can get! This book was written in a language I could understand and it felt like it was written just for me. It is for people who feel intimidated or overwhelmed by personal finance. Or, for people who are disengaged in the process.

Doing away with self-judgement is a huge deal in getting to a better financial life and makes for a less stressful life too. Personal finance is a process and a mindset and I think once we understand that it isn't a quick fix, it's easier to wrap your head around.

If you want to start expecting more from your money, Personal Finance That Doesn't Suck is a perfect place to start! I highly recommend this book.
I never thought I’d need some help in understanding and managing my finances. Prior to several major life events, we were a successful, two-income family and we didn’t think about our money beyond paying our current bills and using our company 401k programs. After layoffs, major accidents, additional education expenses and living with one much smaller income, something had to change in our household. While Dave Ramsey’s plan has been helpful, something was missing.

This book is for people who would like a non-traditional viewpoint from an experienced financial planner who provides perspective and some humor on a stressful topic. Crary’s book has a great conversational style that makes personal finance not seem so rigid or self-loathing inducing. She also recommends setting a money vision to help connect short-term goals to long term planning. This has been very helpful for me, gives me something more visual to look at and think about then to simply... Read more
I am just getting started with personal finance. In fact, finance and numbers is something I never paid attention to until recently. People tried to help me but I wasn’t having it. I didn’t want to focus on money. It didn’t feel right to care about it so I just enjoyed spending it. Personal Finance That Doesn't Suck helped me turn my mind around. It makes (kinda boring) personal finance concepts approachable. My main takeaway was to focus on small changes to keep the momentum going and that the key was to shift your mindset from thinking of saving as depriviation and instead think of it as a gift you are giving yourself. I now like to think I am giving myself the gift of less stress whenever I sock money away. I was even inspired to login to my Mint account after an extended absence of a year plus. If this book can get me to pay attention, it's doing something right.
