Petroleum PE Problems 2017: 1-40: Guidebook Companion #3
This practice exam was written to help engineers prepare for the petroleum Professional Engineering (PE) Exam. It simulates the Morning Section, to be completed in 4 hours under exam conditions. If four unbroken hours are difficult to schedule, ten problems per hour is a fair approximation of the required pace.
The primary source for these problems was the Petroleum Engineering Guidebook: Designed for the Professional Engineering Exam. Answers shown at the end of the exam reference this book on nearly every question. The Guidebook was the key text the author used to pass the petroleum PE Exam on the first attempt in 2015.
There are limited ways an open-book exam can be written to produce the desired failure rate (39% for the 2015 PE exam). It can cover esoteric subjects. It can be time-limited. It can be vague and confusing. Anticipate all of these approaches on this sample exam. Presume them on the real exam as well.
This is the highest quality practice petroleum PE exam available. If you are knowledgeable enough to get 70% of the problems correct under actual test conditions you have a high likelihood of passing the petroleum PE exam in 2017 (or beyond).
