I bought this book (Physics I for Dummies, 2nd Ed), along with Physics II for Dummies, in order to refresh my knowledge of Physics. I am about 1/2 way through the book as I write this review.

I haven't taken Physics in ~15 years, and I found the presentation of material to be well done. Important formulas are marked with a "Remember" icon. Formulas have at least one example problem, but if you want to practice, I recommend either finding more problems to work online, or buying the Physics for Dummies Workbook.

My main problem with this book is that there are some inaccuracies. Usually they are fairly minor, such as listing units of acceleration as m/s rather than m/s2. However, there are slightly larger issues as well. For instance, when discussing specific gravity, the book states:

"Anything with a specific gravity greater than 1,000 sinks in pure water at 4oC, and anything with a specific gravity less than 1,000 floats. As you'd expect, gold,... Read more
I teach Physics and our school does not have a physics text book since we do most of the course work on line. I needed a simple way to fill in the gaps for what we were getting on line and what we were doing in the classroom. The Physics for Dummies series was a great resource. The exercises were practical and easy for the students to understand. I really like the relationship between the books and the workbook. This has been really useful for my students.
This book helps with simplifying terms and basic concepts in a college-prep level physics class. I would not recommend it for AP Physics 1 though. It does not go in depth to tackle challenging class assignments in preparation for the actual AP exam. It would be a good introduction during the summer before taking a physics class but that's it.
