Merton Corwin patented his key and keyboard construction on July 22, 1958. His invention relates to the construction of keys and keyboards for musical instruments such as pianos or organs. His provision of a new and advantageous construction for the individual keys of instruments, and methods of making them whereby substantial economies may be effected and the provision of simplified constructions for a keyboard assembly including new modes of guiding the keys, whereby again very substantial economies may be achieved.
William Zaiser patented his improvement to the piano on August 17, 1937. Zaiser made improvements to the piano and patented it for The Rudolph Wurlitzer Company, a company that started by importing instruments and ended up expanding and making them themselves .
On March 3, 1953, William Millington patented this version of the piano case. He patented it for the Baldwin Piano Company that was once the largest US-based manufacturer of pianos.
On March 31, 1885 Steinway invented his version of the piano frame. Steinway & Sons is an American-German piano company founded in 1853. Steinway pianos have received numerous awards and have often been described as the preeminent piano company.
