Additional Information

Printz Award-winning author Meg Rosoff's latest novel is a gorgeous and unforgettable page-turner about the relationship between parents and children, love and loss.

Mila has an exceptional talent for reading a room—sensing hidden facts and unspoken emotions from clues that others overlook. So when her father’s best friend, Matthew, goes missing from his upstate New York home, Mila and her beloved father travel from London to find him. She collects information about Matthew from his belongings, from his wife and baby, from the dog he left behind and from the ghosts of his past—slowly piecing together the story everyone else has missed. But just when she’s closest to solving the mystery, a shocking betrayal calls into question her trust in the one person she thought she could read best.

Most Helpful Customer Reviews

With the exception of her picture books, I've read all Meg Rosoff's books, and the experience is always beyond enjoyable. The woman can write; there's no two ways about it. Each novel is filled with what I call "literary gems." You know, those insights that are so perfectly captured, the sentences echo in your mind long after you've reached The End.

In Picture Me Gone, 12 y.o. Mila and her father, Gil, travel from London to upstate NY to find her father's oldest friend, Matthew, who has gone missing. Now, Mila is no ordinary girl. She can "read" people. She senses what others, including a baby and a dog, are thinking or feeling and can suss out a situation like nobody's business. One review described her as a mentalist, and that's as good a description as any.

The characters are quirky, but still very real. The various relationships between them are complicated and interesting. The author is a master at revealing just the right amount of... Read more
This may be one of the best and most memorable novels I've ever read, and I read all the best-sellers that are for adults, not ususally books for young people. The main character, Mila, is so completely heartwarming and intelligent, yet I understand why she becomes so worried about her father's missing friend. It's their journey to find him that is this story, and the why behind what adults do and say. It's all handled very realisticaly and frankly I wish this story were required reading in school for Junior High Age kids because it's a thoughtful introduction to the world of adults who make mistakes and the very real world we all live in. UNFORGETTABLE.
Thank you Meg Rosoff.
This book is captivating and a quick read for all ages. The way Mila could intuitively know her world around her by simply paying attention. The author does an excellent job of translating the most basic thoughts into clues most would overlook. I found myself pondering ideas of my own. Re-examining thoughts I have pushed aside when looking for the truth. The truth has so many levels and perspectives.
