This is a delightful pen. It's not very big, true, but when posted it's long enough to fit any hand comfortably. It's very light, but lightness in itself is not a fault. Of course, those who prefer heavier pens might want to avoid it, but that's a personal preference and does not reflect any intrinsic defect in the Prera. I find the nib to be excellent, laying down a crisp line with just a touch of feedback, the latter being something I like, and flow is also excellent. That the body material is some kind of plastic might deter some, but so many modern pens are made of some kind of plastic that to complain about it seems futile. Yes, I'd prefer metal, but it's not metal, and I knew it wouldn't be, so....? Now, if I like the pen so much, why the three stars?

It's a question of value. Yes, it's a delightful pen, but it costs almost twice as much as the Metropolitan, and in my opinion the latter is a much better bargain, especially given that the Metropolitan comes with... Read more
This pen has the weight of a Lamy Safari (so not as solid feeling as more expensive pens) but writes great and has the look of more traditional fountain pens. It is a Japanese pen, so really it is "extra fine" for a westerner, but that is exactly what I was looking for; and gives very smooth feeling for such a thin line. It can be environmentally friendly if you refill cartridges using a needle-less syringe or fine dropper, since you don't throw it away (and can recycle glass ink jars). Like all decent fountain pens, it writes more like a felt pen than a ballpoint (you have to hold it correctly, of course).

The other reason I give it 5 stars is that it is easy to convert to an "eye dropper" pen-- just remove the cartridge, put a dab of plumber's silicon lubricant around the threads, fill the barrel, and away you go-- you can write for a long time without refilling. However, as with many converted eye droppers, when the barrel becomes more air than ink, watch... Read more
I was surprised how good this pen actually is, especially for the price. SHOCKINGLY good. I have a more expensive Pilot, a Vanishing Point, and I like it very much, but I tend to leave it at home -- this one goes everywhere with me.

Like most Japanese fine point nibs, this one writes more of an extra-fine line. But it is smooth and effortless. It is a steel nib, not gold, but it doesn't feel cheap at all.

Mine did not come with a converter, but those are inexpensive and readily available. And it IS a short pen, but it feels completely normal when you "post" the cap. It's definitely not skinny, either; there's a nice amount of girth to it.

I also like the color. It's a pleasant lime green, not obnoxious at all.
