Additional Information

This is not a kit. This is not a completed product. This is a cross-stitch pattern. This purchase is for a paper chart and contains no floss or fabric. This chart was inspired by part of a William Morris textile. This design was created from the works of the artist William Morris. William Morris 1834 -1896 was an English textile designer, artist, writer, socialist and Marxist associated with the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood and the English Arts and Crafts Movement. The Arts and Crafts Movement was a British, Canadian, Australian and American design movement that flourished between 1880 and 1910. It was instigated by the artist and writer William Morris in the 1860s and was inspired by the writings of John Ruskin. It influenced architecture, domestic design and the decorative arts, using simple forms and a medieval style of decoration. It advocated truth to materials, traditional craftsmanship and economic reform.

This product appears to just be a scan of the original artwork fed through a cross stitch software program, without any professional work done to make it work well for cross-stitchers. The border and background are not solid, but are instead a difficult-to-stitch muddy mess. I've been doing cross stitch for 19 years and have done several complex pieces, but this one is just ridiculous. Further, they advertise that a "tired eyes" chart is included. I expected that it would be exceptionally large in terms of the grid size--but it is the same size as the charts included in most professional kits, and their "regular" chart is completely illegible! I am disappointed at the waste of time and money, and will not be buying from this company again.
I haven't purchased this chart but would like to chime in to address the negative one. I just purchased these two charts and began to stitch the first one:

Peacock Butterfly by Naturalist Archibald Thorburn's Bird Counted Cross Stitch Chart

When I was looking at Orenco Originals, it was really hard to decide what pattern to get, there are so many gorgeous ones. I love Alfred Lord Tennyson's forlorn poem, The Lady of Shalott, and I've been looking for a vivid peacock design exactly like this one for years. Looking at the palette of flosses for both projects, and having started one of them, I find the... Read more
This counted cross stitch takes months to complete. I suggest taking the chart provided, cut into sections, place on copier and set print to 129%. I then use a highlighter to mark off completed stitches. Much easier to work. So far I am pleased with the outcome.
