The Pioneer slim BD drive model number is BDR-XS06. The color of this portable rewriter is silver and packaged in a retail box. The retail box includes a USB 3.0 cable, software CD and instruction manual with warranty card. The BDR-XS06 can read BD-ROM discs, read/write to single, dual, triple, and quad layer BD-R discs. The external writer is backward compatible to read and write to DVD and CD formats. The BDR-XS06 drive is USB powered so no AC adapter is necessary.

The unit itself works fine as a burner and blu-ray disk viewer, but the only software that comes with it is an LT version of Toast. In order to actually watch blu-ray disks, one must buy separate software. I wish the lack of blu-ray viewing software with the unit had been addressed in the product description.
First, Mac users beware, the "Mac version", which carries a higher purchase cost than the "Windows version" has no current software available which is supported by El Capitan. Bottom line - You can't enhance the drive to function at it's full performance level so this optical drive is pretty much a 'plug & play' BD/DVD optical device. On a 3.0 USB my bluray ripping speed never exceeded 2X (although the specs say 6X but again that's with the software which Pioneer hasn't updated for El Capitan). Even more painful (if you're a Mac user) is when I hooked this up to my Win 10 PC laptop with a 2.0 USB and downloaded the software and driver enhancer for Windows 10 (Pioneer apparently updated the drive for Win 10 users), the drive enabled me to RIP a bluray disk at 4.5X, and even though it has never reached the advertised 6X, the 4.5 was much faster than when I ripped the same disc on my iMac at 2X, which was extremely slow. The drive itself seems to be farily good for a...
Plug 'n play with Windows 10. Bought this to read Blu Ray discs to "convert" to digital to add to Vudu library. As others have state the drive is a little loud, especially the load/unload mechanism. You have to push the disc about 80% in the slot before the drive grabs it to load. The external eject button is convenient. And the drive is powered from the USB port so no external AC adapter is required.
