Pre-apprentice "basic skills" training

Pre-Apprentice Training was written out of necessity. The course, when first conceived, was intended to prepare apprentice applicants for the General Motors Apprentice Test Battery, and to provide them with the skills necessary to be successful apprentices. In designing a course for that purpose, it was necessary to provide training in five areas: (1) basic math, (2) algebra, (3) geometry, (4) spatial skills, and (5) mechanical comprehension. Needless to say t, there was no such text available. the first class used five different text books. The instructor, John Beach, out of necessity, wrote a workbook-text which combined the five areas. He distilled the basic subject matter and made it easier for the student to comprehend. To his credit the first class of twenty two now lists seventeen apprentices
