Precious in The Sight of The LORD is The Death of One of HIs Faithful Servants: World War II's Epic Account of Leonard Gumabo Earning a Silver Star and Escaping Japanese POW Camp on Corregidor

M/Sgt Leonard Gumabo, 1912-2001, served in the US Army during World War II and the Korean War. Battling a lethal fire earned him a promotion in the US Army and a Silver Star. When Japanese forces seized Manila, Bataan, and Corregidor, he was captured along with other Allied Forces and held as a POW on Corregidor, but managed a daring escape. Serving in the elite fighting force known as the Philippine Scouts, he spied for the Allied Forces. He lived in the United States and in the Philippines and fathered 14 children, including his youngest son, my husband, Larry. The following stories were obtained through personal communication with Leonard Gumabo Sr., "Papa."
