Prokofiev: Chamber Music - String Quartets Nos. 1 & 2 / Overture on Hebrew Themes, Op. 34 / Quintet in G minor, Op. 39

Throughout his life, Prokofiev’s musical thought oriented mostly toward the larger musical forms, such as the symphony, ballet and opera. For that reason the composer’s few chamber music works form no independent musical branch, they follow no inner plan and no specifically aesthetic style. The Russian String Quartet pays great attention to Russia’s national music tradition and has been successful in numerous competitions in and outside Russia. The ensemble is characterized by its excellent technique, the strength of feeling in its playing and its expressive, compact sound.
