Good option for Protec violin case. But I think backpack strap should come with the violin case to begin with. For the additional 15$, it isn't that special. I use this strap (with the case, of course) few times a week, and it took only about five month to see the seams coming apart at the top. Obviously it is the stress point of this strap, so I blame the bad design/cheap material/cheap craftsmanship. The seams and the material should have been reinforced to accommodate the stress.
The clasp for the chest strap in the middle, also broke without doing anything. (Actually, I have never used them)
It is much more comfortable than using shoulder strap, so if you need to carry your instrument around a lot, it is a good option to have. If you only need to carry the case to/from your car, don't bother buying this. I needed backpack strap because I also needed to carry my guitar case and my book bag at the same time.
For Baritone Sax: I bought this for use when carrying my Bari Sax to and from the car/parking lots. I figured my chiropractor would be happy that I was no longer going to standing crooked as I lean to offset the weight of the horn being carried by the single handle! However, I never actually used it because the difficulty of lifting a bari sax onto your back while trying to get your arms under the straps was more than I want to confront every time I go to a performance or rehearsal! Certainly if you have to walk a couple of miles, this strap would be worthwhile. You could have a friend or two support it while you put your arms through or it would help to balance the sax upright on an elevated surface such as a counter or table and get the straps on. However, this is too much trouble because I have found that the single strap that came with the Protec: affords me a much more practical method for carrying the sax on my back for short walks!
I purchased the case in order to take my horn around on a bicycle, as I live close to where I gig. So the backpack straps were kind of the selling point. As far as the ergonomics and wearability of the straps IMO these straps work great with the Protech case. Before buying these, I was nervous from reading some of the more negative reviews about them. But, I feel maybe not everyone is attacking them to the case correctly and I could see how that would cause problems. There is two or three ways to attach the straps but only one way that will work comfortably and securely. There aren't good instructions, but if you copy the picture on the packaging it will work. I found it comfortable for the distances I was traveling with the pack. They are not made to take your horn on a multiple day hiking trip, but are perfect for walking or biking through town or between classes at school. The key, really is to attach them correctly. For a little extra piece of mind, I did wrap some duct...
