Estonian composer Arvo Pärt is one of today's most celebrated living composers. His popularity extends beyond the traditional classical music world. Not only has Pärt's music has been performed by major orchestras aound the globe, it is also beloved of pop musicians from Björk to R.E.M. to Radiohead. This new Orange Mountain recording features soloist Maki Namekawa performing Pärt's Lamentate for piano and orchestra. Composed as an homage to Anish Kapoor and his sculpture ''Marysas,'' Lamentate was selected by Philip Glass to be performed alongside the American premiere of his Symphony No.9. Dennis Russell Davies leads the Bruckner Orchester Linz in this release which also includes Pärt's These Words for string orchestra and percussion.
