Additional Information

A popular booklet examining the psychology of each zodiac sign, with the added significance of cardinal, mutable, and fixed signs. Features illustrations of the Zodiac from 'Atlas Celeste' by John Flamsteed. It has always seemed to me that character analysis is the most important branch of astrology. Evangeline Adams once told me that her clients nearly always asked one or more of three questions. 'Will I be rich?' 'Will I be healthy?' 'Or will I find a compatible marriage partner?' The third question comes in two parts: 'Will I get the right one, or will I get rid of the one I have?' While this attitude toward astrology is understandable, it seems as though the stars in their course have something more important to tell us about ourselves. Those born under the various signs of the zodiac have special lessons to learn. As most of our problems originate in ourselves, it is useful to discover, if possible, the best way to use our planetary endowments. Parents should have horoscopes of their children, for the potentials of character can be found from the chart long before they can be recognized in the disposition of a small child. There would not be so many misfits if we could assist by recognizing aptitudes and abilities. While it is true that emotional relationships are likely to transcend astrological judgment, some unfortunate marriages or alliances could be avoided. Astrodiagnosis will help to determine functional or organic hazards, and is an excellent way to prevent ailments form arising as well as the psychological aspects of illness.

Originally published in 1929, Hall's Psychoanalyzing the Twelve Zodiacal Types is a somewhat misleading title. By reading Halls other works, one will gather he has a solid understanding of human psychology. But this book does not venture too far into the psychological world, and for the most part remains an astrology book more than a psychology book. The book is laid out typically, with each sign getting its own chapter, and in groups according to their class (i.e. cardinal, fixed, common). I feel that the descriptions for each zodiac is not too far from what you would find in other well written (and understood) astrology books. This book is concise and to the point and makes no claims of right/wrong, better/worse. The use of this book is more for those who are practicing nativities and the like and who are, perhaps, looking for an alternate means of assimilating information. The zodiacal descriptions are all based on the Sun sign which must be considered when making an accurate... Read more
The analysis was right on, but I feel it could have been a little more in depth. But he is the best. No one comes close.
This is a short pamphlet on astrology, written by Manly P Hall, an American esotericist with ideas broadly similar to those of Theosophy. It's not clear to me when this short text was written. The pamphlet mentions Hitler and Mussolini, and by implication Mussolini's death, but Pluto had not yet become the ruler of Scorpio. Perhaps it was written shortly after World War II? The current edition is from 1982. A Kindle edition also exists, but lacks the illustrations.

Hall's pamphlet is pretty basic astrology 101. It's interesting only in the sense that it establishes Hall's own belief in a fairly modern interpretation of natal astrology. While there are 12 basic personality types corresponding to the sun signs, Hall does believe that a person can change with hard work and determination. All signs have both negative and positive qualities. The pamphlet emphasizes the negative ones, the author at one point saying that he doesn't want to be too indulgent to the readers (more...
