Jaded rock star, Demetri Daniels, is in Hell — also known as Seaside, Oregon. Sent to rehab after nearly getting himself killed last year, his record company wants nothing more than for him to lay low, away from the limelight.
Irritated and more alone than he’s ever been in his life, Demetri tries desperately to rebuild his shattered reputation as a drug addict and player, which proves to be difficult when he meets Alyssa.
Alyssa is everything he should stay away from. She’s beautiful, smart, but above all else, she’s damaged. And one thing Demetri has learned is two broken hearts don’t equal a whole. In the end, he has to decide if he can rise above the life he’s created in learning from his past mistakes, or fall into the darkness of his choices.

This story was heavier than the first one as it dealt A LOT with grief and regret. While it was well informed and sensitive, it was hard to find the love story between Demetri and Alyssa when Alyssa's previous boyfriend Brady was such a great guy. Every time Alyssa went back in time to a memory with Brady, I fell more in love with him and swooned. No, he was not perfect but neither is Demetri and sweet Alyssa deserves true love. I could definitely see why it was so hard for her to move on. Honestly, it was very depressing.
The story starts off with the rock star, Demetri, getting a lowly job at the taffy shop which required masses amount of REALLY SUSPENDING BELIEF! Demetri, crushed by a broken heart, drug addiction and reckless driving, is trying to turn his life around with the help of his therapist and closest friends. He wants the consuming love his brother has with Natalee, but feels he has used up his one chance at true love when his girlfriend died in a car...
I do believe I liked Pull more than Tear. Probably due in large part because it's not a love triangle. I'm just one of those weirdos that doesn't really love those.
I also think the writing got better as the book went on. And I think I also like that it's not a stand alone book. It does bring up (important) stuff from the last book but doesn't make us hash through it for a 2nd time.
And I fell head over heels for Demetri. Do you love it when the leading male fights for the girl he loves no matter how hard she runs away trying to fight her demons on her own? Then this is the book for you! Demetri grew by leaps and bounds and I loved watching who he was becoming. And he still had his witty personality that provided lots of laughter.
And I liked Alyssa. Took me a while to warm to her. Because while I did love her sarcastic personality, I may have been overdone by the "I'm going to run away from the perfect man so that I can be alone in my suffering" type...
I read this book in one day. Seriously. I spent all day lying on my couch reading on my Kindle app on my phone. It was that good.
Now, if you haven't read the first book in the series, I strongly recommend that you do. You don't have to, Rachel Van Dyken does a good job of catching you up on what you missed in Tear, but reading the first book really helps you understand Demetri and what's he's been going through better.
I really liked Alyssa as the female lead in this story. I liked seeing how broken she was, and how she had to put herself back together. And I really liked seeing Demetri with her. They worked, when you wouldn't think that they would.
Maybe it's just me, but I really felt like this story dug into some topics that aren't typical for the romance genre. The grief and loss theme was pretty prevalent throughout the story, and the author did a great job making it feel real. By the time I was finished with the book I was so invested in these...
