Hey, folk music fans! Have we got a Real Gone treat for you! The New Christy Minstrelsâ€™ classic Ramblinâ€™ album has long been considered that great groupâ€™s creative high water work. Released in July of 1963, the album instantly made the charts and stayed there for 77 weeks, earning founder Randy Sparks and his group their first Gold Recordâ€¦and bringing fame and a little â€œGreen, Greenâ€ to one Barry McGuire. Here it is again, in long-overdue, sonically superior remastered form â€“ and now in an expanded edition loaded with rare material (including six unreleased tracks) related to the album! Youâ€™ll hear the creation of â€œGreen, Greenâ€ â€“ the groupâ€™s biggest hit â€“ in unreleased versions that feature members Dolan Ellis, Jackie Miller, and Gayle Caldwell (later â€œJackie and Gayleâ€ of Shindig fame), with Barry McGuire on only the third verse. Itâ€™s a great arrangement, very different from the hit singleâ€¦and a MUST HAVE for every Christy fan. Plus, youâ€™ll hear the German and Spanish versions of the hit â€“ released in the US for the first time and recorded just after (future Byrd) Gene Clark joined the group. PLUSâ€¦an unreleased â€œliveâ€ version recorded at Randy Sparksâ€™ folk club, Ledbetterâ€™s and a â€œgagâ€ version with a solo by Randy himself (teasing his group). And, thereâ€™s moreâ€¦youâ€™ll hear the brilliant Nick Woodsâ€™ amazing solo of â€œNatural Manâ€ â€“ originally intended to be the follow up single to â€œGreen, Green.â€ Those plans were set aside when Randy came up with a little number called â€œSaturday Nightâ€â€¦which had â€œhitâ€ written all over it. And, it was! Both songs are hereâ€¦along with â€œThe Banjoâ€ (the B-side of â€œGreen, Greenâ€), â€œWalk the Roadâ€, an unreleased version of â€œThe Drinking Gourd,â€ and â€“ most rare of all -- a demo of â€œLast Farewellâ€ (JFKâ€™s favorite Christy song) with a pop arrangement featuring a terrific solo by Randy Sparks himself. Itâ€™s a great package for folkies everywhere â€“ remastered by Sean Brennan at Battery Studios in New York, with detailed notes by Christy guru Tom Pickles that tell the story of Randy Sparks and his group at their absolute peak!
