I recently reviewed the 2004 EMI re-mastering of this remarkable recording (see quoted text below) and this 2014 French Erato release of a 2009 re-mastering in 24-bit/96 hz sound is even finer. It brings her playing right into your room (even although it was recorded in 1953). At this great price for the 2-cd set I may buy additional copies for holiday presents: "Even if you never thought you would want to hear Rameau's harpsichord works on a modern piano, this recording will change your perception of Rameau's genius. Here we have a glimpse of the poetry contained in these varied pieces, a gentleness, a sublimity and yes, also the fun and excitement -- but with a completely different tone color. These interpretations by one of France's greatest pianists of the 20th century, are quite extraordinary. They were recorded by EMI between 1953-1955, and in excellent sound. They really are a little piece of heaven. "
Exquisite is the word that immediately comes to mind when listening to Marcelle Meyer play these Rameau solo keyboard pieces on piano. This release is a definite "must have" for Meyer enthusiasts. Her technique is utterly mesmerizing. I had previously enjoyed some of her recordings of JS Bach & Scarlatti, so I had an inkling that this two cd set would be very much to my liking. The sound is vivid & pristine. A real treasure!
Besides the very nice price for this 2 CD set, Marcelle Meyer does an excellent job performing the nine pieces given. These two CDs get above average play time. L'ŒUVRE POUR CLAVIER as a title defines these CDs very well.
