Pretty good film, just glad i got to see it, unfortunately i never got to see it at the movie theater, due to some bs about my region. As someone who has been a fan of R&C since it came out on the PS2 over a decade ago. the film fell inline with about what i expected for a movie adaption so many years later. the story was built using using the many years of lore we got later added to the universe over the series lifespan, as opposed to being true to the original games story. And a lot of the gritty humor we got in the original, is gone to suit the more politically correct world we live in today unfortunately. it's not a bad movie, but nothing to write home about either. very kid-centric better aimed at the newer younger audience. for old vet fans like myself it's mostly a nostalgia showcase of the cumulative of everything added over the years.
as a side note, all Eu buyers who want the Blu-ray due to us only getting the DVD(odd sales choice?)...
It's a gorgeous movie with great voice acting (additionally with original voice actors taking on the original parts from the series), lots of fan service to those that have played the games, but is good enough for anyone to jump on with. There was something missing though overall where it just didn't feel like it reached the greatness that it was reaching for. It felt like a bunch of game cut-scenes pasted together sometimes... I guess that's what you get from a video game company making a movie. It was still cohesive, just not amazing. I would have loved to see more of the weapons from the games being utilized in the movie more effectively. I felt like it was a lot of talking and not as much emphasis on the action... which is what the games are all about. There was still a ton, it just didn't "feel" like it.
4 stars for a fan, 3 stars if you aren't. Most will watch this and move on. Fans will own it for the pure sake of owning it.
There's nothing heinously objectionable about this film adaptation of an iconic game series. There's just nothing special about it. It's a fairly ordinary take on a story that was always meant for another medium. Even the nostalgia that old Ratchet and Clank players will feel is not enough to overcome the trite storytelling and bland writing. Some jokes are enough to inspire genuine laughter (usually taking the form of onscreen captions), but most of them are predictable. If you've never played the games, skip this one. If you're a fan, go ahead and rent it. You only need to see it once.
