The new full-tilt, unstoppably hilarious and entertaining novel from the best-selling author of Skinny Dip and Bad Monkey
When Lane Coolman's car is bashed from behind on the road to the Florida Keys, what appears to be an ordinary accident is anything but (this is Hiaasen!). Behind the wheel of the other car is Merry Mansfield--the eponymous Razor Girl--and the crash scam is only the beginning of events that spiral crazily out of control while unleashing some of the wildest characters Hiaasen has ever set loose on the page. There's Trebeaux, the owner of Sedimental Journeys--a company that steals sand from one beach to restore erosion on another . . . Dominick "Big Noogie" Aeola, a NYC mafia capo with a taste for tropic-wear . . . Buck Nance, a Wisconsin accordionist who has rebranded himself as the star of a redneck reality show called Bayou Brethren . . . a street psycho known as Blister who's more Buck Nance than Buck could ever be . . . Brock Richardson, a Miami product-liability lawyer who's getting dangerously--and deformingly--hooked on the very E.D. product he's litigating against . . . and Andrew Yancy--formerly Detective Yancy, busted down to the Key West roach patrol after accosting his then-lover's husband with a Dust Buster. Yancy believes that if he can singlehandedly solve a high-profile murder, he'll get his detective badge back. That the Razor Girl may be the key to Yancy's future will be as surprising as anything else he encounters along the way--including the giant Gambian rats that are livening up his restaurant inspections.

When Lane Coolman's car is bashed from behind on the road to the Florida Keys, an ordinary car accident turns out to be an intentional hit. Behind the wheel of the other car is Merry Mansfield (aka Razor Girl; you’ll understand when you read the book), and this car accident scam is the beginning of events that provide continuous humor throughout the book.
In addition to Lane Coolman and Merry Mansfield, the cast of interesting characters include: Trebeaux, the owner of Sedimental Journeys, a company that steals sand from one beach to restore erosion on another; Dominick "Big Noogie" Aeola, a NYC Mafioso who hates the cold up north; Buck Nance, the star of a reality show called Bayou Brethren, who is actually a Wisconsin accordionist; a psycho known as Blister, who idolizes Buck Nance and tries to imitate the reality show character; Brock Richardson, a wealthy Miami liability lawyer, who is getting addicted to the very product he is litigating against; and...
A delightful tale of Florida Keys mischief and mayhem, with a delectable collection of over-the-top characters that only Hiaasen could spin. Hiaasen’s unique blend of humor, satire, suspense, and intrigue grabs your attention at page one, and holds it until the very end.
Razor Girl heralds the return of one of Hiaasen’s beloved characters, the incomparable ex-sheriff’s department detective turned health inspector, Andrew Yancy, in his quest to re-earn his badge. In between restaurant inspections, and safeguarding the public from mouse droppings, roaches, and rats, Yancy spends his rum soaked, pot-spiced days searching for a missing reality TV star, with the help of Merry Mansfield, the Razor Girl herself. Merry, “Spelled like Merry Christmas,” is a head turning, ‘clean-shaven,’ redheaded beauty, who is a master of auto crash scams, with a flair for the unique if not obscene.
Razor Girl is the second novel in the Yancy...
Another excellent work from Carl Hiaasen, south Florida's premier chronicler of crime and weirdness. I first read Hiaasen many years ago, always delighted at his twisted humor and devious, criminal mind. But if you have ever lived there, you know that what he writes is merely a record of what passes for "normal life" in that fascinating part of the country. Once asked how he comes up with such crazy, inventive plots and characters, Hiaasen demured, saying that he simply takes the best of the daily news items and fictionalizes them... slightly. A great, fun read.
