Rembrandt: The Dutch Baroque Style

This booklet attempt to answer how Rembrandt followed, and deviated from, the traditional Baroque art form. In an effort to bring a relevant answer to this question, the author examines the Baroque style common to the era when Rembrandt lived, the Dutch variance in the era, the artistic influences upon Rembrandt, along with his personality and life, and his personal preferences and style. The author uses two of Rembrandt's paintings as a reference point The Blinding of Samson and Bathsheba with Kind David's Letter. These two paintings are excellent representatives of how Rembrandt as a painting maverick, surpassed the constraints of the many layered Baroque style and redefined the genre in a way that surpassed the peers of his day.
