By Category its' a cyclocross bike, but all-purpose versatility was at the forefront of designing and engineering this beast of a bicycle whose convertible technology allows you to ride from dirt to road and single-speed gearing that is easily upgradable to multi-speed. This bike is perfect for urban smashing or weekend trail-riding and all types of terrain in between. As one of the fastest growing bike categories of this decade Single-Speed CycloCross is exploding in popularity. There are no derailleurs or shifters for you to clean, adjust, or maintain. Today you want to ride single-speed, tomorrow you want gears. No problem - convertible is an understatement for the Amok. The bike's rear hub comes ready to add on a cassette and the frame is ready to take on a derailleur, cable stops, or down tube shifters. This thing is ready for fenders, a rack, your choice of handle-bars and any kind of terrain you can find. This bike is set up with sealed bearing hubs for less rolling resistance than old style bearings and less frequent servicing when you ride in dirt or rain. Also the frame's tire clearance allows for you to ride on super skinny race tires or a fatter dirt tire - it's up to you.
Most Helpful Customer Reviews
Pros: Well built frame (love me some cromoly). Paint is solid too (flat paint makes for a good urban bike). Components are of decent quality considering the price of the bike.
Cons: Fit and finish was off. Headset was installed incorrectly (missing lower seal). Seat post clamp needed to be machined to properly work (nothing a drill, a file, and 20 minutes couldn't fix). Wheels needed to be trued. Brakes needed to be adjusted. Hubs needed grease and to be adjusted. Basically everything that a bike shop would do for any bike they sell in their store... but is stuff you will have to do yourself (or pay someone to do for you).
Decent frame and tires, brakes are cheap and not at all smooth. They need to be changed out for something better.
