The main advantage of this over the midrange SRAM PG970 cassette is the spider, which prevents individual cogs from digging into an aluminum freehub.

Other differences: It's a tiny bit snazzier looking, with the red bits partly visible from certain angles. This one is around 50 grams lighter than the equivalent PG970 (and if you care about that, I hope your racing team is providing you with $400 titanium 11-speed cassettes for free instead of outdated 9-speed drivetrain parts). It costs more than twice as much and comes only in 11-32 and 11-34 ranges.

It shifts about the same as the PG970--excellently, that is. It likewise lasts a pretty long time. Steel freehubs and PG970s are the way to go unless you're a racer, but if you are a racer or accidentally bought an aluminum freehub and don't want it gouged to smithereens--or if you're just worth it or into pride of ownership--this is an excellent bike part.
This perfectly fit my Shimano hub, as expected. I had recently upgraded an older (but still gorgeous) Merlin Titanium frame bike that I traded to get from a friend and after adjusting all of the derailleurs and replacing the cables and chain, the chain still kept "hopping" when placed in the middle (5th) gear in back. I correctly guessed that it was just a worn-out cassette.

After installing this SRAM cassette, the shifting is now buttery smooth and the chain stays firmly seated in all gears.

I should note that when my chain is on the smallest cog (highest gear), the master link on my chain comes within microns of just clearing the dropout on my Merlin frame. In fact, when I first installed the cassette, the master link on the chain touched slightly as it rotated around to the dropout. I took it to my local bike shop and they figured out I didn't tighten the cassette quite enough when I installed it. But even after they fixed it, I'm a little reluctant to... Read more
I researched quite a bit before zooming in on this SRAM 9-speed cassette for my 15 year-old Bianchi mountain bike. I love the Bianchi frame so much, that I have replaced pretty much every part of the bike as it started to break. Replacing the cassette this time, I was surprised to realize that I had already replaced the original cassette previously with exactly the same SRAM product, which must have been several years ago. I think this is a great mid-level cassette which has held up very nicely to a lot of very rough riding through mud, water, rain and snow. I would highly recommend it to anyone riding an older 9-speed mountain bike.
