In installed this with an X.7 derailleur, PG1030 cassette and PC 1031 chain and everything works well together. Silky smooth shifts!
I've been using primarily X9 and X0 SRAM parts for years now. It could be me, but I felt like shift lever quality has slid a bit. I like a very defined click and a lever arm with zero flex. The X0 and older X9 stuff nailed this. Even my first X7 shifter was solid (back when SRAM first hit the scene). This shifter has a lot of play though. The larger thumb paddle wiggles noticeably in the neutral position. The first click of engagement for shifting one gear is so vague that I often blow past it without knowing, meaning my new X.9 T2 rear derailleur is 1.5 indexing, clicking around and missing shifts, despite a spot on tune in the stand. If you push harder and aim for the ~3 gear shift at a time, it often hunts around as well. I have to be very careful with it to precisely land on gears, which shouldn't be happening at X.7 level. There are 'better' shifters out there. . . but unless you're racing you won't notice. These shift clean and crisp every time. They are easy to install because of the 1 to 1 actuation. Only benefit I see for a higher grade shifter is weight but since I'd rather be able to buy a replacement if I crash really bad I'll stick with these.
