In FIRE & FLOOD, Tella Holloway faced a dangerous trek through the jungle and a terrifying march across the desert, all to remain a Contender in the Brimstone Bleed for a chance at obtaining the Cure for her brother. She can't stop - and in SALT & STONE, Tella will have to face the unseen dangers of the ocean, the breathless cold of a mountain, and twisted new rules in the race.
But what if the danger is deeper than that? How do you know who to trust when everyone's keeping secrets? What do you do when the person you'd relied on most suddenly isn't there for support? How do you weigh one life against another?
The race is coming to an end, and Tella is running out of time, resources, and strength. At the beginning of the race there were one hundred twenty-two Contenders. As Tella and her remaining friends start the fourth and final part of the race, just forty-one are left . . . and only one can win.
Victoria Scott's stunning thriller will leave readers' hearts racing!

Are you ready "Fire & Flood" fans? Because "Salt & Stone" is here and is making a splash (pun intended)! If you thought the first book in this series was intense, well...you have no idea what intense means. "Salt and Stone" ups the intensity factor 1000-fold, and makes for an amazing sequel! Wonderfully written and chock full of action and exciting adventures, this installment packs a major punch. As the Brimstone Bleed continues onto the 3rd and 4th legs, the characters are put through challenges and danger like they have never known before. And the end...oh boy! Prepare yourself is all I'm going to say.
While I loved Tella in the first book, the one thing that I wished more than anything was that she would stop depending on Guy so much. However, I understood her need for dependency on Guy as she wasn't prepared at all for the extremes and dangers she was going to face in the race. However, in this book, Tella steps up majorly, and realizes...
This book could have easily been 5 stars for me. I loved the writing. I loved the plot. I loved the characters. I burst out laughing on more than one occasion because of something that came out of Tella's mouth. And the Pandoras is such a unique and just plain cool twist on an otherwise cookie cutter dystopian story. But there are two related "twists" in the story that forced me to give it 3 stars (Actually it's closer to two and half stars). SPOILERS!!! First of all I absolutely hated the Pandora Wars portion of the book. It seemed completely unnecessary and pointless. It did nothing to move the story along and was in fact just another way to brutally kill some really interesting creatures. I'm certain that the author was just trying to show how terrible the Brimstone people truly are but she's already established that with everything that went down in book 1 and the first half of book 2. But killing animals, even fictional man made X-men style animals just felt...
-spoiler alert- These books are a cute, young, mix of Hunger Games and Maze Runner. The first book drew me in with the whimsical animals/science and the hints of corruption. But the second book sucked! There isn't a contract for a third book, so I don't understand why the novel ended without wrapping up any major mysteries. Where did Tella's feather come from? If the group of five entered the finish area together, then how did Cotton beat Braun there? Who gets the cure? Is the cure even real? Where is Madox? Is Cody going to make it? What are the chips in the brains? Was Guy telling the truth about how the Brimstone Bleed started? Or is something else going on? Why is Olivia so mature for her age? Which person picked Tella and Cody to be part of the contest? What happens to the Pandoras after the Bleed? Is Braun just nice or did he have feelings for Tella? I would have cared a lot more about the fight against the corruption if I had been let known earlier (like Book 1) that the...
