I had been using one of those AP Audio patchbays for over a decade, and after a decade, half of the individual patches had stopped working. Plus, over the years, I had changed my configuration a few times to accommodate different setups, which meant physically flipping each patch depending on the normal/half-normal/thru setup I wanted. The S-Patch plus is like a luxury item by comparison. Solidly built, with a very handy switch on the front. The only downside is that the scribble strip is next to useless. I found a PDF of the manual online, printed out the faceplate on 11x17 paper, and stuck it above my patchbay, using that instead. I can't justify knocking a star off for that though. I'm trying to keep my setup minimal, but if it gets large enough, I'll pick another one of these up in a heartbeat.
Not sure what is going on...so far to get audio on some of the channels, I have to pull a fully-seated cable out of the jack before it sends a signal.
I'm using the Hosa CPP-845 1/4 inch TS Unbalanced Patch Cables, 1.5 feet.
This was also true when I used another TRS cable that I have. This was on several jacks, but it just so happens that jack 5 works fine with fully-seated cables. Cables are good. Known good cable works on jack 5 but does NOT work on 3,4, 6 unless I partially un-seat the cable.
What a pitb....now I have to get with tech support and burn time with them. Thanks a ton.
*** UPDATE*** Got a replacement unit VERY quickly. Thanks Amazon. This unit has five jacks that will not work, going to have to pull it apart to look at it if I care to get them working....now I have just inserted patch cables into the dead jacks. <sigh>
It's a 48-point, stereo 1/4" phone-plug patch bay, with switchable normal/half-normal/straight-through configuration on each of the 48 connectors, housed in a 1-RU package. Solid, well-built, is what it is, and does what it's supposed to do.
Sure, there are heavier built, more expensive versions of this kind of patch bay, but the quality of this unit is everything I need for my home studio -- and I'll say that I've seen some flimsier bays in some "pro" studios, as well.
Bottom line: you could pay more, but -- unless you're moving a dozen acts through your studio every day -- you probably don't need to. Great item for the price.
