If your looking for a spoon-fed movie, move along. The Exposition is down a few more blocks.
So, you've come this far. You heard about this flick, came here, and read the reviews. That makes you cool, and we should get coffee sometime. As an outsider, I won't pretend to understand all (even most) that may be conveyed in this film. Perhaps it's better that way. For the first third of the film I was frantically trying to relate to the actions and conversations, and was always left with doubts moments after feeling like I had a handle on things. Once thoroughly frustrated (yet still intrigued), I let go and just absorbed the experience. Doing that - allowing the experience to lead me instead of me discecting it - elicited a feeling of being in a dream with that same push and pull. These are the type of dreams in which you can identify strong basal feelings, and perhaps grasp why certain situations are evoked, but the feeling of losing what you've just come to hold and...
If you like lush, cinematic, non-linear dreamscapes full of woozy occult love quadrangles and extended trips down the trance rabbit hole, then this is the film for you. The "art-house" is bookended by solid performances by Christina Breza, David Kandelaki, and Kenyon Page who all bring a realistic counterpoint to the loose form. The soundtrack and sound engineering are equally hypnotic and amplify the already magical fantasm. This film is not like anything else out there and there is ample room for the viewer to form their own Lynchian conjectures.
However if you like standard Hollywood form movies you'll probably think this is a piece of crap. My opinion, but I did direct the thing. ;)
I would have given it a score of less than one if available. If it had been produced in the 60's, I would have given it a 4 because of the attempt to do a supernatural. This was horrible. Acting was below mediocre. Story line was so poor that it only connected with apartment #, blinking stove timer light and the beginning-ending...very sophomoric, if that high. I know the last sounds off the path, but if you waste over an hour of your life watching this, you will see the scenes that I described without revealing the total story-line to you before watching.
I think the background story could have had potential. It boarder lined on something that could have been original but dropped the ball and continued to fumble through out the entire movie. I just kept thinking it was going to get better.
