These speaker stands are extremely high quality and sturdy. We bought the Sanus speaker stands for our Bowers & Wilkins 685 S2 speakers. The price is very reasonable for these stands, which weigh in at about 15 lbs each. The design itself is sleek, simple, and very gorgeous.
It was a little difficult to put the speaker stands together with just one person--I had to help my boyfriend out a bit, but it didn't take long with both of us tackling the process.
The description of the speakers says that they conceal unsightly cables, which I would say is only half true. We unfortunately have white cables and if you simply run the wires through the loops, they will not be concealed. We ended up taping down the cables to the back of the speaker stands with clear double sided tape. This worked a lot better (see picture), but even so, I would not consider the wires to be "concealed," as there is no real mechanism on the stands that hide the wire. Unless the...
I purchased these stands to support my Yamaha HS80M monitors (each about 35 lbs, from Amazon). They are very stable, and I particularly like the range and quality of mounting options. I use HS80Ms with my Roland RD700GX piano, and 26" stands put the tweeters right at ear height, where they should be.
I purchased (from Amazon, where else?) some E-Z LOK Threaded Inserts For Soft Wood, and inserted them into the center-base of each speaker. That allowed me to rest the speakers on the 4 adjustable studs, while having a screw to make sure the speakers stayed in place, and were safe from being knocked off the stands. The mounting plates on the stands are already pre-drilled for this (and almost any other speaker mounting configuration) so mounting was straightforward. This method of mounting provides (I feel) the absolute greatest acoustic isolation possible for the monitor (much better than sticky tape or wood screws, both of which invite speaker cabinet coupling with the...
I expected more for the price. If I'd thought more about it I would have realized this design can't possibly be stable.
The good - good materials, construction, quality.
The bad - the design is terminally flawed. Trying to balance a relatively large object on top of a narrow pole and expecting it to be stable is a futile exercise. I have SVS Bookshelf speakers (15lb) sitting on these. The spikes are leveled, but tap the speaker with a finger and it wobbles like jello. The movement is not detectable in the base. It's flex in the pole / support.
I assume these designs are driven by a desire to have flat packed products for distribution, but the compromises are major. Unfortunately the choice of stands here in the US seems very limited.
I wish I hadn't sold my Atacama SE24s for cheap some years back.... now those were sturdy!
