I wear the lighter Scarpa Charmoz in 41. They are slightly tight and I'll probably get 41.5 or 42 next time. So I used that as a baseline and bought these in 42, assuming I'd wear thicker socks. They fit great with the thicker socks. My toes only occassionally hit the front, only when the boot is a little loose. I bought them last spring and took them on one alpine ice climb with a two-mile approach and weather in the 20's. They were fine for that approach, and great on the ice. I wore them on a snowshoe trip of about 6 miles and about 20F. They were comfortable at a leisurely pace and didn't get exceedingly hot. I remember they were just warmer than my insulated leather boots, but cooler than snowboard boots. Then last weekend, I spent four days in Bozeman (Hyalite Canyon), in temperatures from 8F to 24F. My feet were never cold, while my buddies in insulated leathers were dancing around. I think they might not be so comfortable for very long approaches, but I'm guessing...
I switched to using the Phantom 6000's for alpine climbing in the Alaska Range, and I couldn't be happier.
The Phantom 6000's keep my feet very warm, but they fit and move like single boots, making me much more comfortable on technical terrain.
These boots are several ounces lighter than my previous double were, a noticeable weight difference on long days.
The lacing system is simple and easy to use with gloves on. The integrated gaitor with waterproof zipper works really well.
I bought these boots for Aconcagua. Because I live in Los Angeles and had to try on boots by mail, it took months for me to find these and I ended up getting them just a little over a week before leaving on my trip. There were a few spots where the boots were too narrow, and those areas could have been problematic - especially with hoe much my feet swelled - but I used a carabiner and a spoon to widen those areas... The first time I wore these outside was on the mountain and I never had a blister in the 10 days I wore them. I wear pantyhose as a liner and a medium/heavy sock and everything was great. I would recommend ordering them very large if you have wide feet...I wear an 11.5US on average, my EVO Nepal GTX is a 45 and fits perfectly...I ended up needing a 48 in these boots...
