- U.S. emission regulations require that marine tanks cannot vent below 5 PSI. Because of this, swelling and expansion are common, but tanks are built to safely handle these pressures. Scepter tanks use a two-way vented cap designed with a vent screw to release vapor above 5 PSI and allows air in during engine use. If the vent is closed, the tank will not vent in any direction.
