Thanks to incorporating the recently adopted dual-pivot design into the 105 brakes, the Shimano 105 BR-5800 Brake Calipers have even more consistent stopping power than before. Rather than using the mounting bolt as the pivot bolt, Shimano now uses a plate with a separate center bolt to attach to the frame. In this way, the brake arms are now centered above the wheel, which means equal braking pressure to the rim when the lever is pulled. In addition to more stopping power, the new BR-5800 brake calipers also allow you to run tires in widths up to 28 millimeters.
