I have been using 4 of Shure's PGX wireless mic systems for over 8 years, and wanted to upgrade because it is an entry level system and not always reliable. Shure has discontinued manufacturting the PGX line. BLX has been advertised as "almost as good" as SLX, for about 2/3 of the price. I bought a BLX4R receiver with a BLX2 Beta 58 mic and BLX1 Bodypack. The handheld works fine, although the plastic it is made of feels cheaper than my PGX Beta 58's. The bodypack is made of flimsy plastic. I am sure the door will break off after a few gigs. The real problem is a loud white noise the bodypack transmitter puts out (I was using a high-quality Countryman mic). Sounds like you are listening to the ocean. I tried to kill the noise with an equalizer, but was unsuccessful. It is in the range of 80 to 200 hz. I bought 3 of these BLX1's and all 3 had the same result. I am therefore returning all of this BLX system, and will be upgrading to Shure's SLX line, which I have... Read more

I went with Shure as I regularly use their wireless SM58 handheld for DJ events and I couldn't beat the pricepoint. I obtained this as a package: this Transmitter with a headset mic and the BLX H8 receiver. Tried it when I first got it at home and it worked fine. Since I live in a townhome with neighbors on both sides, however, I wasn't able to give it a full real-world test at actual event SPLs(Sound Pressure Levels) , which was unfortunate. I took it to an event with a Cize (dance-based aerobics) Instructor. Had a LOT of distortion on the mic, which I chalked up to my idiot self neglecting to properly adjust the Gain control, causing the signal to over-modulate (when the signal is too loud and distorted and causes a "muddy" sound similar to what you hear when people film others using a megaphone). To make matters worse, my CLIENT noticed the issue and commented on it in our post-event session. I've attached a video from the event so... Read more
Serves its purpose for my teaching needs for my aerobics classes.
