I'm disappointed that I had to search for a solution at all. Every shower/tub should be manufactured with a non-slip surface. For years i've just been putting down those replaceable bath-mats every 6 months or so when the suction cups wore out. I found them to be sometimes more dangerous then nothing at all. I can't imagine how much money I've wasted buying those things.
So to the point that someone else made that this is an expensive product, its really not if you think about what a doctor visit will cost if you fall or what you'll spend on a replaceable product.
I found 1 can to be plenty to coat my shower. Which is over-sized, x2 the size of a standard shower.
What I would like to point out that you MUST have good ventilation. I can't stress how bad this stuff smells while its drying. We could smell it all the way out in the living room. We had to take the kids and get out of the house it smelled so bad. I'd recommend spraying it first...
UPDATE: approximately 3 weeks has passed since we applied this to the bottom of our tub. I noticed a rather large bubble (approx sz- 5x7) on the bottom of the tub today and realized it was peeling off the bottom of the tub. I had to peel it all off which came up easily so I could reapply to the surface. I still like the product even if we have to reapply it once a month. It makes the tub much safer for my husband who is prone to falls.
I sprayed on the bottom of my tub one thick layer (1/2 can) and it was completely dried within 4 hours. You can't see any difference in my tub surface but can feel this bumpiness that will definitely keep us from slipping around. I will warn you though it smelled up our entire house (paint varnish smell) and our neighbors! The neighbor came by to make sure everything was ok - he asked if I was painting.. Lol I opened every window in our house and it took about 3 hours to get the smell out. My husband was concerned about it causing the furnace...
This is a great, albeit expensive solution to a dangerous problem. I used it on a new shower base that has raised dimples. This base was so slippery when using hair conditioner, that we considered tearing the whole project out. When I mentioned the expensive issue, keep in mind that for plastic and fiberglass, this is the only game in town. All the rest are for tile only. The cans are not filled to capacity. As the seller says, that the space is needed to properly mix the product. So buy two cans.
Pay attention to ALL the instructions. Ventilation is a must, not only for health and safety, but for a proper cure. I used two fans to ensure that there was good air flow over the product. The smell changes from volatile to yuk as it cures. Then the yuk goes away. Re-coat in one hour.
Mask the edges so you get a factory look. Otherwise it is going to look like somebody just "sprayed something" on the floor. The results are fabulous. The manufacturer of the shower base...
