Dear A. – I am writing to express my gratitude for your gift. There are no sufficient words, but please accept my sincerest thank you.
She writes me back. I didn’t expect that.
She tells me she’s a lover of chicken pizza and video games, a hot sorority girl with the nickname Sloth. She wants to know something about me in return. She says I owe her.
This is how she saves my life. She doesn’t even know it. We’ve never even seen each other. But I need a reason. Just one reason to continue. She becomes mine.
The anonymity is good. She doesn’t need to know me, but I need her kindness. We both live our lives: a letter here, a post card there. For three years, I escape my demons. And then one day I’m pulled back in.
I’ve resigned myself to what I know is coming. Until the girl I’m spanking gives her safe word: Sloth.
And then the lie I’m living starts to unravel.
Sloth is a 500-page, 150,000-word stand alone novel with many twists, one huge secret, and a non-cliffhanger ending. It will wreck you, but you'll like it.
BTW: Part of the fun of reading this book is trying to guess the secret. I would appreciate it if you could avoid spoilers in reviews and review headlines, so others will be able to enjoy the guessing game.
THE SECOND BOOK in this series is out NOW! Murder is the story of Kellan's oldest brother, Barrett Drake. It's free via Kindle Unlimited and also for sale here in the Kindle Store.

Sloth is the first in a planned series of stand-alone novels by Ella James, using the Seven Deadly Sins are their inspiration. Initially, according to James, it was intended to be a quick read, as she has several of the other novels in the series already outlined. But the project took on a life of its own, and kept James embroiled in their story for almost 7 months--a record length of time for this highly prolific author.
Sloth was worth the wait. It's about 500 pages, and tight. There's no filler here, and I can see places where it could easily have been longer. There is SO MUCH going on in this book. There's secrets, and mystery, and in almost every chapter there's a place where the reader thinks, "Wait, what?!" But it all gets explained, and the story unwinds itself with quick pacing and and yet torturously slow reveals--the very best kind of read, in my opinion. With a book of this size, you have time to get to know the characters, to be invested in their lives...
Holy moly. This book had me glued to my couch. In my opinion this is the best book Ella has wrote. She had my gut twisting, my head spinning and my heart falling to the floor. This book is so intense and so full of emotions it was one I could not put down. At one point I was balling my eyes out because of the big secret Kellen was carrying around with him. It smacked me right in the face. I never saw it coming. I mean I knew he had a secret but that? Heck no. And Cleo she is so strong, so independent and just so dang loveable. Now don't get me wrong there were so many other parts that had me laughing too. These two together are pure genius written in the words of a brilliant writer. I loved it. I sank my teeth into it and I dang near fell out of my seat at times. I'm writing this review just hours after finishing this book. My mind is still fresh and still hung over. It's that good you all. Delish is the best word I can come up with for this book or...
Melancholy. If asked how I would describe this book, that's the word I would choose. It's the one that most often came to mind as I was thinking about the tone of Sloth, and it's the one that best describes my own mood. Both as I worked my way through this lengthy, wonderful book, and now, as I try to sort out my thoughts long enough to write a coherent review.
Sloth is about secrets. As such, pretty much any synopsis I attempt to give you will result in spoilers, so I'll steer clear. You don't need to know the story to appreciate every twist, every turn, every emotion, every secret; in fact, it's better you don't. There were times when I had to scroll back a couple of pages to check I'd not missed anything in my haste to find out what was happening, because Sloth moves a lot. But, as Ms. James slow but surely reveals everything you need to know to understand these characters, the overall picture becomes clearer with each page. The possibilities change often, and part of...
