Sol’s warships paid the ultimate price for threatening the Haraken and New Terran worlds. Now, Haraken President Alex Racine and his Méridien partner, Renée de Guirnon, are engaged in a desperate gamble to stop a war between their worlds and United Earth’s (UE) massive forces before it starts.
What’s Alex’s grand plan? He hasn’t a clue, but his people believe in him and hope he will find a way to protect them. Alex does have powerful assets: the Haraken space fleet; the genius SADEs, mobile Haraken digital intelligences; and the defected UE scientists, who are providing a wealth of intelligence about their home world.
Arriving at Sol, Alex discovers the perfect opportunity to make his statement to the UE Supreme Tribunal in the form of the aging Idona Station, which has fallen into disrepair as UE militia and rebels battle for control. Alex explains his unorthodox plan when he says, “The UE tribunes will succumb when we overpower them with prosperity.”
The Harakens work to meld Idona’s militia, stationers, and rebels into the Haraken’s view of the world, one based on peace, purpose, and equality. The Tribunal is at odds over the Harakens’ interference in their system, forcing the rifts in the UE’s political structure to widen into chasms.
In the exciting conclusion to Haraken, the series’ previous book, Sol is the story of a clash of cultures and ideals as Earthers struggle to find a way toward a successful new future.

This book continues to document the exploits of former space tug captain, Alex Racine, now president of the Haraken world. They are threatened by the United Empire which intends to acquire any and all of Haraken's much advanced technology, primarily by force. The continuing development of the SADE's (Self Aware Digital Entity, aka Artificial Intelligence or AI) gives Racine and his Haraken compatriots a decided advantage as they try to defuse the UE threat without destroying a lot of space colonies and lives. The interface between the humans and SADEs is sometimes serious, sometimes humorous, but always respectful. SOL is a great five star addition to THE SILVER SHIP series of stories.
NOTE: These books should be read in order, starting with THE SILVER SHIPS. This will allow the reader to follow both the situation and character development (both human and SADE) .
A not so satisfying fifth book in the "Silver Ships" series by S.H. Jucha. I am a voracious reader of SciFi, preference for the scientific/ future based writings as opposed to the fright writers. Give me plausible science, well rounded characters and a believable plot and I am your reader. The Silver Ships have all of the requirements for a good mental ride and emotional attachment. I could detect in the first novel that this was an independent publication, but the story was exciting enough to suck me right in, allowing me to pass over the editing/spelling errors and each successive book has improved in those areas as well as enriching the story. I am not a reviewer to tell the story in a synopsis that gives away details. You want that, download the sample. I will tel you that Mr. Jucha has an intelligent imagination and engaging story, richly fleshed characters that he makes you care about and science that is understood. Each book in the series takes you further down the...
The books in this series have actually gotten progressively better, but the first book seems like it could have been written by a 6th grader, so the bar was very low to start. On the negative side, the good guys are unrealistically perfect, the ability of Alex to make everyone love him almost instantly is unbelievable - and boring, the editing is awful, the plot is totally predictable, the science is unexplained and cheesy, and the worst, we have a sci if author here who doesn't know the speed of light, telling us it will take many days for radio signals to travel across the solar system. Scott, radio signals travel at the speed of light, and light will get from the sun to Neptune in just over 4 hours. Also disappointing is that Alex's "partner," who was a leader with a personality in the first book, has devolved into a sex toy, an odd development, since there is no graphic sex. On the plus side, it's a feel good story and the author's belief in a cooperative, consensus...
