The Strander family, vacationing on a sailboat watches in disbelief as a container ship grounds on the rocks off Stuart Island in the San Juans. This book imagines a relatively small container ship oil spill in the Salish Sea as a wakeup call for what could happen with the proposed dramatically increased tanker traffic in the Haro Strait area. The effects of such a spill could extend from Vancouver to Seattle, destroying that pristine environment, including orcas and other marine life.
