The Slysz Bowie just arrived in my mailbox, and I haven't been this impressed with a Spyderco since... well, ever. I'm a fan of the Taiwanese models, but the Southard, despite being a beautifully made knife with one of the best steels available and excellent fit and finish, just didn't work for me in terms of ergonomics. I prefer larger knives, so when the K2 and the Slysz Bowie came out, and a marketplace seller on was selling the K2 for the ridiculously low price of 210$ Canadian (about 175$ USD), I didn't hesitate. The K2 is an awesome knife, with a huge CPM 10V blade that is razor sharp; it spyder-flicks open with a smooth, easy action, and has very nice stonewashed titanium and a unique faux-spherical polished standoff. But it's an eccentric design, to say the least, over 10-inches long but thinner than a Sebenza, only vaguely ergonomic, and with an eternally sticky lockbar that requires injecting steroids into your thumb to close (I'm kidding, obviously, it's not all... This is truly an excellent knife from Spyderco. I have carried a wide variety of EDCs (moderately priced to very expensive) and this ranks amongst my favorites. The blade is easily and authoritatively deployed, razor sharp straight out of the box, and a perfect size (the sweet spot between 3 & 3.5 inches). The handle fits well in the hand and is quite comfortable considering it's comprised only of two titanium slabs. The knife also rides comfortably in the pocket with a very low profile. The pocket clip could be positioned better, as it has a tendency (at least straight out of the box) to catch aggressively on the seam of one's pocket...but with a little adjustment (or even changing out the clip) this can be fixed. Many knives are purchased only to eventually be resold...I'll definitely be keeping this one.
Awesome knife! I was looking for a long while to settle on a Spyderco EDC I could be proud of and enjoyed using. It was awful tough as there are many models to choose from and because of owning Chris Reeve Knives, Hinderers, Striders, and others the bar had been set high. The Paramilitary 2 is a good alternative but this was the knife to beat. Since there are hardly any negatives, I will just state them now and then list the major benefits of owning and carrying the Slysz Bowie. The first negative would be the pocket clip. Though it is practical, functional, and lightweight, it does take away from the richness of the knife. A stonewashed spring clip or 3-D sculpted clip would have been a great match on this knife. The other negative would be the pocket clip mounting holes on the presentation scale side. Usually with a frame lock folder, it is much better to either make a left handed or right handed version as even the Spydiehole for left handers would pretty much be... Read more
