UPDATE 8/10/16 Received my new copy today and it has the Sulu scene fixed as advertised. Sadly the Dolby Atmos plus seamless branching issue still makes the disk unplayable unless you switch the audio output of the player to PCM. Thanks to everyone who suggested this! Dolby Atmos review for Blu-ray gets -10 stars.. could you not have waited for the next format to introduce a new useless audio format that makes tens of millions of perfectly fine BD players useless? May the E-corp in-human monsters that destroyed our beloved BD standard be forever cursed with shrinking profits.
The 1 star is only for the 2016 Blu-ray Directors Cut release - the Film gets 5 stars automatically. There is as serious audio problem with either all these disks or possibly a batch as others have stated the exact same problem I have seen with the skipping Dolby Digital 7.1 audio. The disk audio skips during the Mutara Neblua battle and around every extended branching scene making it...
Regarded as one of the best films in the Trek series featuring the original cast, "The Wrath of Khan" was a surprise hit for Paramount produced on a fraction of the budget of "Star Trek: The Motion Picture". Director Nicholas Meyer ("The Seven Percent Solution", "The Day After") working with producer Harve Bennett (who worked on the script with Meyer although neither is credited--unfairly-- on the finished film as writers)and writer Jack Soward crafted the script after having viewed all of the Trek episodes and selecting the one with the most memorable nemesis for Kirk and crew.
If your edition has a yellow bar code, it is the corrected version of the Blu-ray without the duplicate scene featuring Sulu and the lip flap that occurs during that scene. As of the writing of this review, the new, corrected versions are also being shipped out to those who returned theirs to Paramount so the issue has been corrected. The packaging may have a white...
This would have been a 5 star release but it has some errors. First they duplicated the scene where Sulu plots a course around the neutral zone when he replied to Savvik's orders "If the starship enters the zone." Second during the deleted scene where Kirk and Spock are climbing up the tube to reach the bridge the dialogue, "that young man he's my son." is omitted and finally there are audio sync problem in some of the scene most notably when McCoy is telling Spock, "you're not going in there."
On the good side the picture clarity is top notch but I prefer the old colors of the uniforms on my previous director's edition DVD. They darkened the film up so the maroon uniforms look too dark. I am a fan not matter what but like in previous posts they should have spent more time making sure this special movie finally being released in director's edition blu ray was picture perfect. A let down to true fans. I wish people took the time to do...
